San Tan Valley is a charming community in northern Pinal County and is one of the fastest growing in the area. This bedroom community is the perfect place for professionals looking for a home away from the fast-paced city life. San Tan Valley is not a city or a town, but a census-designated place. The San Tan Mountains in the area provide incredible views to approximately 80,000 residents.
The origin of San Tan Valley’s name is debated between the San Tan Mountains, a corruption of the name Santa Ana, the last name of a former postmaster, George San Tan, and more. The area acquired a new zip code, so the United States Postal Service petitioned to provide it with a name of its own on January 1st, 2009. A non-binding vote took place on June 23rd, 2009 giving it the name San Tan Valley.
The area consists of many different subdivisions and neighborhoods including Ironwood Crossings, Encanterra, Laredo Ranch, Pecan Creek, Johnson Ranch, San Tan Heights, Skyline Ranch, Copper Basin, Circle Cross Ranch, Morning Sun Farms, and Rancho Bella Vista. Many of these communities are master planned and family-oriented. The schools in San Tan Valley are served by J.O. Combs Unified School District, Florence Unified School District, and Coolidge Unified School District.
San Tan Valley supplies more than enough space and trails for horseback riding, hiking, camping, walking, and more. Horseback Riding at Central Arizona Riding Academy holds lessons for all ages and skill levels to learn the basics of horseback riding. These lessons cover the dressage and basic riding, last about 90 minutes each. More outdoor fun can be had at the San Tan Mountain Regional Park. The park is outstanding, and the hiking is suitable for all ages. Go mountain biking, camping, walking, hiking, or whatever else peaks your interest, but be sure to bring plenty of water.
The community is home to many hole-in –the-wall restaurants will many different cuisine offerings. The San Tan Valley is a community that offers everything a family could need in a big city while also offering peace, open spaces, and starry night skies. The outdoor recreational opportunities, impeccable scenery, and small-town atmosphere can’t be beat.
