Gilbert is one of the fastest growing incorporated towns in the country. Gilbert is located in Maricopa County, Arizona, about 30 minutes southeast of Phoenix, Arizona.

Gilbert’s history began in 1902 when the Arizona Eastern Railway established a rail line between Phoenix and Florence. A rail siding was built on William “Bobby” Gilbert’s property and a town came to life and became known as Gilbert. Gilbert was a farming community and sustained by the development of the Roosevelt Dam and the Eastern and Consolidated Canals. The town earned its title as “Hay Shipping Capital of the World” during that time. In the 1970s the Town Council approved a strip annexation of 53 square miles of land and since then, the town has flourished into the thriving community it is today.

Today, Gilbert preserves its history with the Gilbert Heritage District and the Gilbert Historical Museum and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which plays an important role in the present day Gilbert and offers special events as well as exhibits and photographs.

There are many spectacular neighborhoods that come together to create the ever-growing city of Gilbert. Some of these neighborhoods include Morrison Ranch, The Bridges, Power Ranch, Ashland Ranch, Layton Lakes, Lyons Gate, Freeman Farms, Val Vista Lakes, Cooley Station, Agritopia, Highley Groves, Trilogy, and so many more. All of these neighborhoods come with their own unique charm.

Families with students living in Gilbert are served by the Gilbert Unified School District. The district covers most of Gilbert and some of Mesa and Chandler. The district has a Great Schools rating of 8 out of 10. The schools in district also boast a high school graduation rate of 90%, according to gilbertschools.net.

The Riparian Preserve is a great place to explore the great outdoors with activities like fishing in pods, walking through trails, observing local fauna and flora, bird watching, and more. The Cosmo Dog Park is preferred over some of the larger dog parks in the area because of the pond.

Gilbert is recognized by CNN/Money Magazine as the 33rd Best Place to Live in the US (2012) and the 2nd Safest City in the US by Law Street Media (2013).  Gilbert has made its mark on the Arizona map and has modernized the downtown by implanting of some of Metropolitan Phoenix’s key dining institutions including Postino’s and Oreganos and its flourishing local boutique and farmer’s market scene.
